too much sun!!

the weather here has been outrageous - 80's, sunny, no bugs. i've had this great job the last 3 weeks working for a friend of mine at one of the biggest (and only pesticide free) greenhouses in town. it's 8 hrs a day of hard physical labor - everything from making dirt, transplanting trees, delivering huge flower baskets... the best part is that people actually say thank you for your work (something i really missed in grad school). but alas, think i'm starting a new job at the university this week, but still hiring bureacracy to be worked out so stay tuned.
got in a long road ride today - 52 miles from the u to the top of cleary summit and back. i'm trying to train for the sourdough triathlon in july - it's here in fairbanks but a long one, a half-ironman (1 mi swim, 56 mi bike, 13 mi run). so that's what i'm up to... puppy training and julie training... there's no time left for a new job!

chatanika

i canoed ~ 20 miles of the chatanika on saturday with my friend kyle. great to paddle on the high spring water, and see a lot of terrain as it's just starting to green up. lots of new migrants have just arrived. caz's first class II @ 10 weeks old!

guess what i saw in the park yesterday??? a really really big cat - a LYNX - can you believe it?? i also saw a lot of these, do you remember seeing them last summer? is there enough money in your outhouse yet to come visit again this summer? love, juju.

weekend in town

my assistant likes to run off with my tools... she's not much help. great weekend in town - running, biking, and building a small garden box. dea and ben's blog has better photos from the weekend - check it out. there's a perfect mother's day photo there for you mom - you can download it yourself and then i'll be on time for a change this year :). heading down to denali for a few days tomorrow just to help Kristen out with her project and get in some good birding...

Clearwater 2006

Every spring a group of friends gets together to float the clearwater - one of the first rivers to melt out, it's near delta junction. I think this is my 4th or 5th year doing it, and it was a huge group this year - 13 boats and 25 people!! Fun weekend, and we lucked out with the weather (not exactly balmy, but it was predicted to snow, and thankfully didn't!)
